Oops, Was That A Felony?
an influencer-slash-criminal film study
I was recently at this gallery opening in a literal sewer—so chic—and I realised that everyone there was trying so hard to be a Pisces. Like, "Oh, I contain multitudes, I'm like a body of water." And I just thought, no, that is so 2025. The energy we need right now is loud, it's bold, slightly annoying but like maybe you hate it because of your own discomfort at the status quo you're accustomed to being challenged. "I just set my entire wardrobe on fire as a commentary on fast fashion and now I'm ready to publish my memoir." That energy. Here is who is currently vibrating at this frequency.
Sabrina is the only person in the world who has ever had a crush. Everyone else is "hanging out" or "on the apps," but Sabrina is longing. She is so transparent about her horniness, her desire, and so completely unbothered by your feelings about that because she's secure in who she is as a woman and an artist. I feel like she and I are on the same wavelength regarding bangs and emotional boundaries.
To be a true Aries is to take yourself seriously. Jeremy takes himself with the seriousness of an angel fallen to Earth, who was called to prevent the apocalypse. He becomes a complete vessel for every character he plays. His words. Whenever he does a photocall and stares down the lens like it’s his insubordinate shiba, that’s Aries energy. It’s I'm doing the most and if you don’t get it, you’re literally media illiterate vibes. I’m obsessed. I want to cry just thinking about him playing Mark Zuckerberg. Is that how you spell it? I refuse to search it. He doesn't deserve the traffic.
Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, the baby, and Charli has that baby of the pop world shine. Not because she’s young or like, inexperienced - she’s probably seen things that would make my soul leave my body. But it’s because she has the baby-like entitlement to do whatever she wants. She'll just try a whole new sound, a new aesthetic, and the audience is just like, "yes, ok love that for you" but like did she even ask? I think her rock album will be a spiritual reset for a lot of us.
Jacob himself is too sleepy to be an Aries, but his team is an Aries. His profile lately is so in your face. He's everywhere. He’s looking at us with those forlorn eyes from every billboard. His aura is screaming, "I read On the Road and it changed my entire personality for three months." That is the most Aries thing a person can do. To be so public with a version of yourself you just invented ten minutes ago. Art.
Obviously, Rachel Sennott is culturally an Aries right now. She created I Love LA on HBO, she's starring in it, she probably catered it, and she definitely wrote every single line of dialogue during her 5 AM sun salutations. Also she got stung by a bee between her boobs at the Oscars this year. She was in physical pain and the venom was entering her bloodstream, but she kept partying. Like she knew her skin looked dewy and luminous and you don't waste that. She is a warrior. She is a soldier. She is a girl who knows how to make a minor medical event work for her on a press tour.
Chappell is the most Aries person to ever exist. She’s currently in her Do Not Touch the Art era. Most people are desperate for a drop of attention, she’s setting boundaries and making everyone feel like they’re being chastised by their friend's cool big sister. It's made me reflect on my own relationship with visibility and I respect her for only accepting the parts of fame she likes.
Sometimes he’s wistfully staring out of a train window for Louis Vuitton, sometimes he's winning an Emmy for looking stressed near a stove, but he always has this frazzled, emotionally distant energy I'm just really drawn to. He has successfully rebranded "unprocessed trauma" as a desirable aesthetic. Every time a photo appears online where he’s holding a cigarette and looking like he just finished a 14-hour shift at the gravel factory, a mood board gets its wings. Definitely a man who would forget your birthday but also send a 20-minute voice note apology. Dying to have him on my podcast when I start it.
Never had a thought that she felt compelled to silence. Most people have an inner monologue, but Reneé has a monologue. Her main character energy is pathological - it’s her Aries impulse to lead the pack. In this media landscape of greige "quiet luxury" (boring me to actual death) celebrities, Reneé is my neon sign in the dark night that says LOOK AT ME OR I’LL DIE. She can just decide that her feelings are breaking news and everyone stops to watch, but when I try to do that, my mom calls to ask if I’ve "taken my vitamins." She should have all the fame and fortune. She deserves it.
She’s not even an adult and she already looks like she’s about to fire everyone in the room. That is Aries baby energy. She didn't ask for the crown, it was her birthright.
She told me I had "bad form" in front of the whole class. Pure, unadulterated aggression.
I'm not being too mean, right? Because I really do not want to lose my invite to the next BAFTA's dinner.
